Pooja Bhatt gets abusive, threat calls

Posted on 8:37 PM

Actor-filmmaker Pooja Bhatt has been receiving obscene and threatening calls from an unidentified guy. She has filed an official complaint Wednesday at the Bandra police station here against the caller.

"Have been getting threatening/obscene calls from +918308984111. The male voice, obviously inebriated, abused me and threatened to come over," Pooja shared on Twitter in the early hours of Wednesday.

She called the police immediately, but only in vain.

"I called 100 to complain. A rude female voice on the other end asked me to go to the nearest police station as she could not do anything. When I explained that it is close to 1 a.m. and I could not possibly be expected to go to the police station alone, she got extremely brusque," wrote  Pooja Bhatt.

The calls from +918308984111 continued in the meantime.

Pooja's father, filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, shared that he too had "received a call from the same number at 12.35 a.m. (Jan 9)".

These were the questions left suspended in the cold evening fog at the Ferozeshah Kotla after India pulled off a near-miraculous ten-run win on Sunday. In a game of late twists and exasperating turns, the Pakistan batsmen made heavy weather of the modest 168-run chase, throwing it all away in the end to help India avoid the ignominy of a series whitewash on home soil.

Man of the Match MS Dhoni's words a day before the game, on how Pakistan could be vulnerable if India ever managed to put pressure on them, turned out to be prophetic as the visitors first recovered from 14/2 before Misbah-ul Haq fell to Ashwin to make it 113/4, triggering an inexplicable panic attack in the ranks.

Pakistan's top order plans had gone awry with Mohammad Hafeez coming in late to bat after sustaining a finger injury, and when Umar Akmal fell trying to give Jadeja the charge with the score at 125/6, India closed in for the kill. But Rahane dropped Hafeez at leg-slip off Ashwin and it seemed Pakistan would squeeze through after all. After 46 overs Pakistan needed to score at a run a ball with Hafeez and Umar Gul at the crease and four wickets in hand. What had seemed like a comfortable chase at one point was now an adrenaline-surged test of nerves, but definitely not beyond Pakistan.

In the dramatic dying moments of the game, Ishant Sharma got an increasingly tense Gul to hole out at long on, and India's debutant pacer Shami Ahmed, who had come up with a nippy, impressive opening spell, sent back Saeed Ajmal. Junaid Khan lost his poise and ran himself out, and with 23 needed off the last 12 balls, Hafeez fell to Ishant trying to force the pace. It was curtains for Pakistan and India have their bowlers and fielders to thank.

MS Dhoni, who top-scored with 36 runs in an extremely mediocre batting performance, decided to go with attacking fields from the start, and the fielders responded in style. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Shami Ahmed's opening spells set the tone in conditions amenable for seam bowling. Pakistan limped to 22/2 by the first 10 and it was left to the out-of-form Misbah to engineer a recovery, first with Nasir Jamshed and then with Umar Akmal. But Ishant (3/36) and Ashwin (2/47) kept up the pressure till Pakistan choked.

The win masked India's continued poor showing with the bat, and even swapping Virender Sehwag for Ajinkya Rahane — in a dry run of the shape of things to come against England — didn't help matters. The batsmen were a massive letdown on a day the bowlers and fielders strove to make a match of the dead rubber. Even on a dry and flattish Kotla, the top order succumbed to Pakistan's pacers, as has been the pattern throughout, before Saeed Ajmal, the one who had missed out so far, tweaked his way to 5-24 off 9.4 overs. India lasted only 43.4 overs batting first.

India beat Pakistan by 11 runs, draw T-20 series

A career-best 72(36) by Yuvraj Singh, who was also adjudged the Man of the Match, helped India post

a formidable 192 for five wicket in 20 overs. Pakistan managed 181 for seven in 20 overs after skipper Mohammed Hafeez top-scored with 55, his second consecutive half-century. Hafeez was declared Man of the Series. Put in, the Indian middle-order put on a sterling show and atoned for their dismal performance in the first T-20 in Bangalore. Yuvraj smashed 07 sixes and 04 fours during his 36-ball innings. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni-33, Ajinkya Rahane-28 and Virat Kohli-27 run also came up with valuable knocks. Pakistan pacer Umar Gul picked up 04 wicket for 37. India pacer Ashok Dinda (3/36) bowled an excellent spell in the death overs to restrict Pakistan. Dinda picked up two wickets in the final over giving away just eight runs when Pakistan needed 20 to win. Pakistan got off to a good start with Nasir Jamshed-41 and Ahmed Shehzad-31 adding 74 runs for the first wicket. The Pakistani top-order got good starts but none of the batsmen could go on to score a big innings. Earlier, Gautam Gambhir-21 and Ajinkya Rahane-28 gave India a steady start with their 44-run stand for the first wicket. Unlike the first T-20, Pakistani opening bowlers Sohail Tanveer and Mohammed Irfan were wayward, prompting skipper Mohammed Hafeez to introduce pacer Umar Gul in the fifth over. Gambhir greeted Gul with 03 consecutive fours before being trapped lbw in the fifth ball. Gul removed Rahane in the next over, taking a good catch off his own bowling. Yuvraj and Kohli were going strong with their 35 run stand for the 3rd wicket but Kohli gifted away his wicket in the 12th over while attempting a needless single. What followed next was a blitzkrieg by Yuvraj that left the Pakistanis hapless. Yuvraj and Dhoni were involved in a 97 runs stand in just 7.2 overs and took India’s score to a mammoth total. Yuvraj’s brilliant innings was ended by Gul with Shoain Malik taking a good catch at long-off boundary. Dhoni, who hit 33 off 23 balls, became Gul’s fourth victim after he was clean bowled by a yorker in the final over.

One of the Cricket game's all-time greats, Sachin Tendulkar, on Sunday announced his retirement from 01-day cricket, bringing to an end a glorious 23-year-old career in the format during which he rewrote numerous batting records.

"I have decided to retire from the One-Day cricket format of the game. I feel blessed to have fulfilled the dream of being part of a World Cup wining Indian team. The preparatory process to defend the World Cup in 2015 should begin early and in right earnest," the 39-year-oldman Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar said in a statement released by the BCCI on Sunday.

"I would like to wish the team all the very best for the future. I am eternally grateful to all my well wishers for their unconditional support and love over the years,"Sachin added.

Tendulkar, considered the most complete batsman in modern cricket and one who was considered next only to the legendary Sir Donald Bradman, retires from the ODI format at the top of the run-getters' list.

Tendulkar goes out after amassing 18,426 runs in 463 one-dayers at an average of 44.83. The diminutive right-hand batsman has an astonishing 49 hundreds in the ODI format, including a 200* the first in this form of the game.

Tendulkar made his ODI debut against Pakistan way back in 1989 and interestingly he is quitting the scene just ahead of another series against the arch-rivals.

The Mumbaikar, who made himself unavailable for T-20 after playing just one game in 2006, will now remain active in only the Test arena.
