India beat Pakistan by 11 runs, draw T-20 series

A career-best 72(36) by Yuvraj Singh, who was also adjudged the Man of the Match, helped India post

a formidable 192 for five wicket in 20 overs. Pakistan managed 181 for seven in 20 overs after skipper Mohammed Hafeez top-scored with 55, his second consecutive half-century. Hafeez was declared Man of the Series. Put in, the Indian middle-order put on a sterling show and atoned for their dismal performance in the first T-20 in Bangalore. Yuvraj smashed 07 sixes and 04 fours during his 36-ball innings. Skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni-33, Ajinkya Rahane-28 and Virat Kohli-27 run also came up with valuable knocks. Pakistan pacer Umar Gul picked up 04 wicket for 37. India pacer Ashok Dinda (3/36) bowled an excellent spell in the death overs to restrict Pakistan. Dinda picked up two wickets in the final over giving away just eight runs when Pakistan needed 20 to win. Pakistan got off to a good start with Nasir Jamshed-41 and Ahmed Shehzad-31 adding 74 runs for the first wicket. The Pakistani top-order got good starts but none of the batsmen could go on to score a big innings. Earlier, Gautam Gambhir-21 and Ajinkya Rahane-28 gave India a steady start with their 44-run stand for the first wicket. Unlike the first T-20, Pakistani opening bowlers Sohail Tanveer and Mohammed Irfan were wayward, prompting skipper Mohammed Hafeez to introduce pacer Umar Gul in the fifth over. Gambhir greeted Gul with 03 consecutive fours before being trapped lbw in the fifth ball. Gul removed Rahane in the next over, taking a good catch off his own bowling. Yuvraj and Kohli were going strong with their 35 run stand for the 3rd wicket but Kohli gifted away his wicket in the 12th over while attempting a needless single. What followed next was a blitzkrieg by Yuvraj that left the Pakistanis hapless. Yuvraj and Dhoni were involved in a 97 runs stand in just 7.2 overs and took India’s score to a mammoth total. Yuvraj’s brilliant innings was ended by Gul with Shoain Malik taking a good catch at long-off boundary. Dhoni, who hit 33 off 23 balls, became Gul’s fourth victim after he was clean bowled by a yorker in the final over.

NEW DELHi: The New Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a PIL challenging cricketer Sachin Tendulkar's selected to the Rajya Sabha.

"The petition is dismissed," a division bench of Chief Justice Dr.Murugesan and Justice Rajiv Sahai Endlaw said.

Earlier, Additional Solicitor General Rajeev Mehra, who appeared on behalf of the Centre, had told that Tendulkar's nomination to the Upper House is as per constitutional provision which also allows induction of experts from the field of crickets.

The expertlawyer had said the provision under Article 80 of the Constitution is not confined to inducting experts only from the fields of science, arts, literature and social services but also from sports, education and other sides.

The court had on November 21 reserved its order on the PIL filed by Ram Gopal Singh Sisodia, a former Delhi MLA, challenging Tendulkar's nomination alleging that he does not possess any of the qualifications prescribed under Article 80 of the Constitution for being nominated to the Rajya Sabha.

"A bare reading of the article makes it clear that the person to be nominated should have special knowledge or practical experience in matter choise literature, science, arts and social service, but the expertise so required for nomination is not confined to the specific illustrations given in the article," he had said in his petition.

In an affidavit to the High Court, the Centre had earlier said-The special knowledge and practical experience required for the purpose is not confined to the said 4 categories only but would also include categories like sports, education, law, history, academics attainments, Indology, economics, journalism... or anather matter fields of human endeavour.

Appearing for Sisodia, counsel R.K.Kapoor had said to the bench that the Constitution selected the government to nominate to the Rajya Sabha persons only from 4 fields - arts, science, literature and social science, and argued that the nomination of a sports person to the Rajya Sabha was unconstitutional.
